Host the gym's anniversary party, they said.
It'll be fun, they said.
Roll thru tonight.
I'm hosting and were got an open mat!
Get to know one of the craziest, savage mofos in the game, @richardleroy39.
New interview pinned to the top of the Verbal Tap Facebook page.
We chat @cxf_mma, being fat kids, and his love of American Psycho.
Big thanks to my homie @drujtsu for inviting me out to @street_sports_simi_valley yesterday. Drew is one of the most chill people you'll find in all of bjj and I had a great time shooting the shit with the guy after he beat the living crap out of me for a few rounds.
We gotta do that again soon, good sir.
But for now, enjoy the most low rider, cholo post bjj training photo you'll see on the internet today!
Still got it. Spreading the gospel of #wwebjj at @street_sports_simi_valley.
My thanks to all the guys for the rolls yesterday and letting me show my favorite #xguard sweep and finish.
It's been about four years since I've done anything remotely close to boxing. I loved doing it, but I mostly did it to get my cardio in decent condition before I went back to jiu-jitsu (yep, I was that guy. But my jiu-jitsu has always had to compensate for me being grossly out of shape). I didn't have any plans to pick it back up, but when @drujtsu extended a personal invite to train with @richardleroy39, I said "well, if you're gonna learn from anyone, why not the guy behind one of the craziest @cxf_mma fights I have ever seen." It's funny how your body can forget all the proper stances and movement, but your brain knows youre letting your hands down too much, you're forgetting combos, and your form is all over the place (I noticed my striking stance had been over taken by my equally terrible jiu-jitsu, and it was somewhat difficult to break the habit)
And yet, Rich was amazingly patient and walked me through the motions with fantastic notes and reminders.
I'm scheduled to have an interview with Rich on Wednesday afternoon. What would you like me to ask him? Fire away in the comment section below.
I'm gonna talk with him about his last Cali Kings fight (even though I wish I could review the footage and show you parts of that epic encounter), what it's like to train at @street_sports_simi_valley and his amazing t-shirt (you gotta see it to believe it). My thanks to him for an awesome night of instruction. Turns out I missed striking way more than I thought I would (just not the sit ups).
